Lewis & Clark Explorers
(for Kids Who Have Completed Grades K-1-2)

"To inspire in the children a sense of wonder and joy in their discoveries as explorers and learners". That's a piece of LCI's Mission Statement and the primary purpose of the program for the younger children.

The Explorer's program introduces the youngest members of the LCI community - kindergarten, first and second graders - to the LCSI experience. We want the kids to get up in the morning excited about going to school at LCSI. The Explorers spend their days in a small group - no more than 14-16 kids - with their own teacher who plans activities for them that echo the activities pursued by the older LCSI kids. Sciences, theatre, computers, music, cool art - to name a few.

On many days the Explorers will visit the older kids' classes where they'll try their hand at cooking, creating their own webpage, gardening, woodworking, ceramics, stained glass making, and figuring out The Science of Secrecy.

On other days, the kids and teachers will decide together what they'd like to learn about. Then they'll paint and build, write and experiment, sing and play games that will help them learn about what interests them. They'll draw and read, invent and explore, act and dance and tumble into a myriad of related activities.
