TECHNOLOGY::

Advanced Animationn
So you've already taken Beginning Animation - what could be next? How about in-depth cartooning, new stop motion experiments, and more time on independent projects. In this class, we will work to create longer animations with sound and special effects using StopMotion or Flash. Also you will learn how to prepare your animation for your own website. (To enroll in this class you must have already taken Beginning Animation)

Beginning Animationn
Do you like Wallace and Grommett, Naruto or South Park? Make your own animations! This class will create, draw and animate using Flash and Stop Motion programs. After watching animations and experimenting with the programs, studens will create their own mini films.

Digital Cameras and Photo Manipulation
Learn how to use a digital camera then manipulate your photos on the computer to make photo masterpieces. We will be using a professional photo manipulation software called Photoshop to liquefy, posterize, and pixilate your pictures into creative works of art. Then we will create a slideshow to show off our photo collection. We will save our creations to a jump drive that you can keep. (This class has a $25 materials fee with it).

Digital Video Production I
Video production for kids who have just complete grades 3-4-5. Create a short story, script it, and shoot it. Mix in sound effects, digital video effects, and subtitles for the final video production. Pick a part and jump right in. Previous experience is not necessary to enjoy this class.

Digital Video Production II
Video production for older kids who have just completed grades 6-7-8. Through your imagination, group collaborations, and many other creative resources and activities, you will develop as a video artist and story teller. Write a script, cast characters, develop shots, shoot, edit, and learn how to present your story. Previous experience is not necessary to enjoy this class.

Web Design - Be A Part Of The World Wide Web
Learn to make your own web page, using scanned images, text that you can write or find on the web, and other pictures or information only you can design

ARTS:

Broadway 101
5-6-7-8! Ever dreamed of joining the cast of High School Musical or Hairspray? During this three week class, students will learn about the different forms of expression on stage as well as basic stage movement and terms. We will also dabble a little in song and dance. Students will perfrom a mini-review show for friends and parents to conclude the session. (Classes will be formed with similar age groups e.g. grades 3-4-5 and grades 6-7-8)

Ceramics - Make art in THREE dimensions!
Create hand-built pottery and artistic sculpture in clay while learning about how people all over the world have used this art form for all recorded time!

Cheerleading
If you've got spirit, this class is for you! Students (both boys and girls) will learn cheerleading techniques, basic cheers, and small stunts that are commonly used in both sideline cheering and competitions. Small demonstrations will be perfromed throughout the session for other classes. This class stresses not only movement, but also sharing energy and fun. Go team!

Cooking With Class
Learn the how's and why's of basic cookery as we explore the cuisine of many lands and people. Expand your horizons as we cook our way around the country and around the globe. (This class has a $25 materials fee with it).

Drawing and Painting- Did you say your name is Picasso?
We artists, brand new and seasoned, will investigate some of the most popular art techniques and styles from all over the world and try our dirty hands at some of them.

Fit Fun & Games
Are you up to the challenge? Join us $ fitness games and nutrition fun! Jammin' music, obstacle courses, dodgeball, limbo, Dance Dance Revolution, game bikes, and much much more. Make salsa, smoothies, fruit kabobs, and other healthy snacks. This class is sponsored by Fitwize4Kids.

Glass Masters- Excuse me, May I have a Band-Aid?
If you've ever taken 2 glass classes before at LCSI, you qualify for this advanced art studio class. Everything you make will be your own original design!

Fabric Frenzy and Cool Crafts
Grab a piece of fabric and learn printing techniques using a variety of materials. Transform an old t-shirt into a work of art. Techniques involve tie-dyeing, silk-screening, discharge dyeing, crayon rubbings and more. Papier mache a bowl and mask, and personalize some flip-flops. Be creative and have fun with beads and other cool crafts.

A Mixed Media Art World Class
Take a creative trip without lraving the country! Using materials such as paint, collage, papier mache, and found objects, we will explore the art of other countries and make our own stupendous works.

The Next Superman
Pop! WOW! ZAP!!! Ever think you could write your own comic book? Now you can. From storyboard, to drawing and writing, to computer-generated images, learn all the steps necessary to be the author, illustrator, and publisher of your own comic.

Real Stained Glass - Challenge Yourself and be Pleasantly Surprised!
We're talking real glass cutting, grinding, and soldering! If people from the 1300's A.D. could do it, you certainly can! You'll learn to make simple sun catchers at first and then go on to create your own designs. (A $25 materials fee is required.)

Woodworking ZZZZZ-ZZZZ-ZZZ ZWETT-ZWETT-ZWETT BANG BANG BANG. WOW!!
These are the sounds of woodworking at the Lewis and Clark Summer Institute, and "wow" is the word you'll hear yourself using as you learn to use some of the same non-electric tools that real carpenters use! This year you will be making the "WOW" sounds even more often than ever before, because this year we will actually be..."BUILDING A MINI-HOUSE!" This class is a group-project playhouse that will be used by LCSI's young Explorers! You will also have opportunities to do some individual projects that you can take home to mom and dad. Join us, BECOME A REAL CARPENTER! and help BUILD A HOUSE!

WORDS AND BOOKS:

Book Arts - You are your own Publisher!
Using paper, bookboard, measuring and cutting tools, needles and thread, you'll learn several bookbinding techniques to create beautiful blank books. Or you may add stories, poems, and illustrations. If time permits, we'll experiment with stamp arts - even carving our own stamps. (A $25 materials fee is required.)

Creative Writing- Introducing J.K. Rowling, the Second!
Explore the many ways of expressing yourself through the written word: poetry, short stories, journaling, and personal essays. Learn to improve your work and develop your own style while having a lot of fun!

The LCSI Insider - They Print Newspapers Everyday. How Hard Could it Be?
Are you a reporter? Or are you more of an editor, art director, illustrator, or layout designer? Don't know? Come to this class and discover the in's and out's of creating a newspaper while also reporting the events of camp and the world beyond.

SCIENCE::

Big River Ecology
I partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the National Great Rivers Research and Educaiton Center, LCI kids will have a remarkable opportunity this summer. Students will get to study the ecology of life in the Mississippi River at the Reverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary near Alton. They will study birds - trying for example, to identify birds' eggs and to figure out the anatomy of feathers; they will study fish - learning to identify little stream critters that they seine in the wetlands (and, yes, they will get their feet muddy and wet); and they will delve into details about trees and plants. Most of the week kids will study at LCSI, but one day each week they will take a trip to Riverlands.

Chemical Concepts
A student favorite. Students will investigate the wonders and magic of chemistry through hands-on experimentation and well-supervised demos including fir and ice. Students will experiment with thixoytopic compounds, colors , crystals, and chocolate. (This class has a $25 materials fee with it).

Chemical Concepts Part Deux
An advanced version of Chemical Concepts, students will investigate more complex facets of chemistry including enzymes, commercial chemistries, and combustion. This class gives the students an opportunity to delve into investigative science. Students are encouraged to brig in their own ideas to take an active role in the experimental process. (For students who have just completed grades 5-6-7-8)

Gardens and Plants
If you like being outdoors, getting your hands a little muddy by digging in the dirt, and watching a garden grow before your very eyes, this course is for you! You'll develop a special garden from scratch on LCI's beautiful campus, and take field trips to both the Missouri Botanical (Shaw's) Garden and to the Rolling Ridge Nursery to learn about its many plants and flowers from one of their expert horticulturalists. This course is sponsored by the Rolling Ridge Nursery in Webster Groves.

LCSI CSI Forensics
LCI Students will discover means of forensic investigation including fingerprinting, chromatography, substance ID, handwriting analysis, blood spatter, and ballistics. (This class has a $25 materials fee with it).

Science of Secrecy
This is the class for the student who likes puzzles, history, spy games and more. We wil linvestigate and practice breaking a number of codes, look at some historically significant codes and will create our own Morse code machines. After learining some basic code-breaking, students will participate in scavenger hunts as teams, employing their new skills and explore opportunities to sabatoge their competitors in the race to complete their lists. Of course this class has to cover the classic lemon juice "invisible ink" experiment in addition to the other activities. Younger students who find the coded messages too challenging will be offered other puzzles to solve to meet the objectives in class and scavenger hunt participation.

Science of the Kitchen
The theme of this class is Explore, Experiment and Eat! We will study and create mixtures, chemical reactions, solutions and more. Students will grill, explore their sense of taste and learn basic kitchen safety while having fun and trying out a number of simple preparation recipes.

TUITION:
$500 for one session
$850 for both sessions
After-school care (3:00 to 5:30 PM): $75 per week.
